Solar Decathlon Europe, NEW YORK, Volunteer Architect

I have participated in the Solar Decathlon Europe 2012 as a Volunteer Architect, for both the assembly and disassembly of the solar houses in the Infrastructures Area and as an observer for the competition. I have taken part in the control of the construction site, the reception of materials, the distribution and coordination of the different construction equipment and machinery, assistance to the different teams involved in the competition, linguistic support, etc. I have worked with students from all around the world with a common goal towards sustainability and efficient housing. I have been able to improve my fluency in French and Italian, while learning about efficient and sustainable construction and gaining an in-depth knowledge of the organisation and planning of a construction site.

I obtained my Master's degree in Architecture from the Madrid Polytechnic University, Spain. My final thesis project was a Time Bank which is an interesting solution for moments of economic difficulties. In this project I have dealt with all phases of architecture including building design, structural design, construction details, landscaping of surroundings, etc., developing the project with the guidance of a director from the projects department and a director from the construction department.

I spent a year in Italy with an Erasmus grant, where I also worked in teams and learnt to collaborate and acquire an appreciation of other people's experiences and points of view. While I was there I participated in a group project which lasted a year to restore and renovate a 17th century convent, drawing the plans, studying the pathologies and proposing an action plan for its rehabilitation.

I attended a B.E.S.T (Board of European Students of Technology) course in the Czech Republic on “Safe Structural Design” in Brno, where I had the opportunity to work side by side with students from all over Europe from different disciplines and we had to learn to reach a consensus on how to organise the tasks we were assigned.

2017 Palladio Design Award for Adaptive Reuse for The Knickerbocker Telephone Company, Award

The Palladio Awards honor outstanding achievement in traditional design. The event recognizes both individual designers and design teams whose work enhances the beauty and humane qualities of the built environment. Through creative interpretation or adaptation of design principles, we celebrate techniques developed through 2,500 years of Western architectural tradition. The Palladio Awards are the first and only national awards program for residential and commercial/institutional projects which demonstrate excellence in traditional design.

2014 MASterworks Best Restoration Award for the Engelhardt Addition, Eberhard Faber Pencil Company, Award

The annual MASterworks Awards recognize projects completed in the previous year that exemplify excellence in architecture and urban design. Founded in 1988, MASterworks has paid tribute to some of the city’s most iconic buildings and under-the-radar local gems. Past honorees include the Fulton Center, McCarren Pool, TKTS Booth, the High Bridge, the New York Times building, and the Museum at Eldridge Street.

Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award 2014 for the Engelhardt Addition, Eberhard Faber Pencil Company, Award
