About

NUMI NUMI Design was founded in 2010 by Lior Schapiro with a mission to design an ecosystem in which children interact with their furniture. Lior believes nursery furniture should be eco-friendly, functional, and interactive. As a father of three boys he experienced first-hand the baby furniture that was widely available, and was inspired to create more sustainable children’s furniture.

Lior’s approach to sustainable design began in his hometown of Arad, Israel, a small desert city located in the middle of the Judaean desert. This natural environment, inhabited by a community of scientifically-minded individuals, instilled in him the importance of environmental sustainability. From this foundation he developed a commitment to designing in harmony with the local environment.

Lior received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the City College of New York. There he was awarded Best Thesis (2005) for a conceptual material recycling facility, and a public park in Hunts Point, Bronx. His work was also exhibited at the Center for Architecture, AIA New York Chapter (9 Architecture Schools Expo, 2005). Lior’s commitment to sustainable design led to his earning the prestigious LEED ® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. With colleagues, Lior designed a prototype for an African health clinic that placed in the top ten awards for the competition: “Design for the Children” (Humanity For Children Competition, 2009).

NUMI NUMI Design blends Lior’s background in sustainability with his commitment to curiosity and play in modern children’s furniture design.
