I hold a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Houston. I have many years of experience, both as designer and as a project manager, mostly in the commercial sector. I have been instrumental in the success of several firms, including fd2s, Harper + Associates Architecture Workshop, and most recently with Slattery Tackett Architects. I have also been active in academia, having been invited by faculty at both the University of Houston and Rice University to guest critique student work and to speak about issues of contemporary design. While most of my career has been spent in the service of the building arts, I have also enjoyed success as a graphic designer. During my tenure with the multidisciplinary firm fd2s, I was an integral member of the team that redesigned M. D. Anderson Cancer Center's wayfinding system, which used a 'branded', web-integrated approach to help patients find their way through a complex set of hospital campus conditions. The project was awarded the Society for Environmental Graphic Design's top honor for 2005, the SEGD Honor Award. I have been active in the local visual arts community as well, serving for several years as a docent and guest lecturer at the Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston. My personal works have been exhibited in numerous local art venues, including large and small scale art installations at the Preston Workshop, in 2000, with a video installation entitled "XYZ", and in 2001, with "Untitled (10 Miles of String)".
I spent the bulk of 2009 and 2010 fulfilling a lifelong goal of backpacking across Asia, logging thousands of miles through places as diverse as Vietnam, China, Mongolia, Australia, New Zealand, and the Philippines. Ask me to tell you a story. I'll be glad to.
