Education

Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, GA, US, Masters, Interior Design

Interior designers identify, research and creatively solve problems pertaining to the function, safety and quality of interior environments.

SCAD offers one of the largest and most professionally-engaged interior design programs in the United States. Students benefit from the expertise of full-time faculty who hold terminal degrees in the field and who share a common belief that a holistic educational framework guides future professional development and inspires life-long learning.

The interior design program challenges students to become innovative designers who are capable of critical thinking and effective communication. Professional ethics and values are stressed within the context of social, environmental and global design practice.

Projects include commercial, residential and institutional design, and address a wide range of behavioral, environmental, decorative and technical issues. Social responsibility and sustainability are emphasized.

SCAD interior design students work with electronic design software including Revit, AutoCAD, MicroStation, SketchUp, Adobe CS5 Master Collection, 3ds Max, SURFCAM, and Autodesk Maya. A fully integrated intranet system offers online help, shared drive space, downloadable 3-D models, building use maps and access to online resources.

The M.A. degree offers advanced study for those who wish to gain knowledge of design theory and the interior design profession with an emphasis on emerging materials, human response and research methods.

University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL, US, BArch, Architecture

Faculty and students draw upon the body of knowledge of architecture through exploration of the history of the profession: from traditional building methods, materials, form, and organization, to the nature and context of current practice. Students are introduced to the present-day profession within the context of a 5,000 year legacy of building, and are to call upon that history for practical application. Faculty and students study the legacy of building and seek new discoveries in the work of the past by documenting current-day buildings and landscapes.
