Matthew Ronhaar

San Diego, CA, US

I have a master of architecture degree that I received last June (2011).

I worked for a small firm for 2.5 months towards the end of 2011.

I currently do contract work for designers and fabricators and have over three years' experience with fabrication design and technique.Designing and building projects is a great way for me to learn something new.

I also do freelance work for architects.

Industries that I follow: Architecture, Design, Film, Videogame, Technology.

Joy: being a husband and father, discovering a new film, running, BBQ, morning coffee.

Guilt: my lack of contribution to NPR, In-N-Out, my vehicle's MPG, channel surfing.

My MArch degree is the result of a three-year curriculum focused around an intensive design studio core. Throughout my time at NewSchool, the integration of sustainable design practices was required for all design-based projects. Additionally, coursework requirements included a 4-part Environmental Sciences (ES) progression over the course of an entire academic year. These classes focused on the theory and application of passive and active sustainable design concepts and practices in both realized and proposed projects.

Other courses included: programming, construction documents, architectural history, architectural theory, urban design, materials and methods, wood, steel and concrete structures, codes, beginning and advances Cad and Revit courses, professional practice, Urban History, Urban Issues, Comparative Structures, Seismic Design,
