About

I am a native German and moved to NYC in December 2011. I have full work authorization and permanent residency in the US. At the Technical University Darmstadt, I earned my Diploma of Architecture in 2010. I have spent three years in the professional design and work practice environment, with experience in design, construction drawings, architectural competitions and architectural/sustainability consulting. I am a certified energy consultant for existing residential buildings in Germany and am studying towards becoming a LEED AP.

As a member of the winning team for the Solar Decathlon 2007 in Washington D.C. and part of two very successful following architectural projects, my main background and experience is in high-performance design of residential and small-scale, detailed projects.

Employment

ee concept, Darmstadt, DE, Assistant Project Manager

I worked on several projects in the field of high-performance design, including the design of passive houses, schools, competition evaluations and energy simulations and analyses of office and industrial buildings.

Jul 2011 - Nov 2011

Freelance Designer, Darmstadt, DE, Architectural Designer

I worked on several architectural competitions, including plus-energy houses, hostels, student housing, schools and residences.

Sep 2010 - Jun 2011

Gelber Pool Projektgruppe, Darmstadt, DE, Co-Founder

As co-founder of Gelber Pool Projektgruppe, I designed two energy-efficient buildings with integrated solar technologies, estimated at $1.5M each, that were built to tour around Germany and North and South America showcasing German design and technologies. Both exhibition buildings were successfully sponsored by the German government, in cooperation with Manfred Hegger, HHS Architects.

Tragwerk+, Darmstadt, DE, Architectural Designer

Created architectural visualizations for a structural firm.

Education

Technical University Darmstadt, Darmstadt, DE, Architecture

During my studies, my team and I designed and built the winning house at the 2007 Decathlon Competition in Washington D.C. The zero-energy house was designed to function on solar-power and batteries alone, and performed more efficiently than its 19 competitions on the National Mall.

Oct 2003 - Mar 2010

Awards

Solar Decathlon Winner, 1st Place

Placed first of twenty solar homes in a series of ten contests designed to simulate a two-person home. The competition and exhibition lasted two weeks on the National Mall in Washington D.C. and the TU Darmstadt house out-performed its neighbors in almost every category, including including Architecture, Engineering, Comfort Zone, Appliances, Hot Water, Lighting and Energy Balance.

The house's main feature that attracted future clients was the wooden louvers that incorporated solar panels. These louvers protected the house from overheating while simultaneously gaining solar energy to power the house.

The Solar Decathlon won several design and construction awards, including:

-2009 'Detail' Prize, Student Category
-2009 'Bauwelt' Prize, Prototype Category
-2009 German Wood Construction Award
-2008 Hessian Wood Construction Award
-2009 Recognition, European Prize for Solar-integrated Building Techniques
-2007 IKEA Prize, Living in the Future
-2007 Germany Land of Ideas Award
