Lai Tieng

I am student from the University of East London. I will be graduating in June 2012 in with Bachelor Degree in Architecture and RIBA/ARB Part 1 affiliation. I am expecting to obtain a 2:1 for my result and the transcript will be obtained around end of June. 

I am an ambitious and pro-active individual. I am willing to learn and I am a doer personality. I learnt to find out problems straight away when incoherent issues happened in working drawings. I will find out the cause and try to solve the problem. During my past few internships in various architect firms and a 3D modeling architectural company, I had a total of 7 months comprehensive working experiences where I received my first-hand experience in learning 3Dsmax modeling software, AutoCAD and also working as part of the team with whole organization and importance of own responsibility. Previous internship experience I have involved mainly in residential housing, commercial shop lots but also other projects like luxury bungalow lots, budget hotel, university campus and old folks home. These projects provide me with the understanding how important is communication and the procedures of how architect work.

During the internship, I specify in detail drawings and trained to produce and improve working drawings at different stages. I do some interior design as well on plans to show client. Sometimes I am required to do schematic sketches and research on site with precedent studies to discuss with architect. I am good in spatial arrangements and after proposing to the architect I start producing basic set of tender drawings. I posses other computer skills such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, Rhino and other graphic communication programs. Most of the time, I use AutoCAD to show my design idea and 3D building modeling or a mass modal.

Since graduating from architectural college in Malaysia for 3 years studies, I applied to complete my degree in the UK for another two years starting from year 2. Overall I obtained a longer architecture education background compare to others, I admitted to have a stronger and better understanding in architecture. I have special interest in sustainable architecture and graphic design so I always look into related studies, books or projects for additional knowledge.

My verbal communication skills and positive attitude make me an effective communicator with team members. With my Malaysian Chinese family background I am capable to speak and understand English, Cantonese and Mandarin as my main language and Malay as my national language. I can read and write English, Mandarin, and Malay with no problem.  I am an active, hot blood person. I involved in various positive activities like volunteering and charity events. I am personally social active as well.

Please strongly consider my application as a year out. The longer year of academic background, coupled with my relevant working experiences, will give me the ability to add value to the position.
