I am a LEED certified NCARB architect registered in New York with 18+ years of experience within a wide range of typologies and project scales, in both a domestic and international context. These projects are located in diverse locations like China, India, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, Haiti and the United States. I am currently Director of my own practice MONTOUTE ARCHITECTS PLANNERS (MAP) while Design Principal at CYCLE ARCHITECTS + PLANNING (CAP) a collaborative design practice with offices in Manhattan and Brooklyn. I have actively pursued work in both the public and private sector including projects for residential and commercial development and transportation projects for agencies such as the RTA, MTA, Port Authority, and New York City Transit and also for developers and private clients.
Over the course of my professional career I have worked to build a diverse portfolio of interests and experiences in support of strengthening my design ability and my ability to manage teams. I think that it is these diverse skills that make a successful architectural practitioner.
I have spent the majority of my professional career at FxFowle where I worked for over eight years. I was an associate of the firm, leading the Design-Core, the office’s advanced design team, and was also in charge of mentoring young designers. In addition, I led the Transportation Group in the pursuit and development of Infrastructure projects. I have a strong belief in the role of Infrastructure in the built environment of cities, and that architects should have a hand in shaping all facets of the public realm. I have been responsible for schematic design through construction documents for projects as diverse as Mixed-Use, Residential, Stadiums, Transportation and Bridges. I feel the key factor to my success in my various professional endeavors has been an ability to build consensus by focusing disparate and often divergent concerns and criteria toward a clearly defined goal.

Design Principal- Colin Montoute AIA, LEED, NOMA has been a practicing architect in New York for over 20 years. He is currently in private practice as the Director of MONTOUTE ARCHITECTS PLANNERS (MAP) and a Design Principal at CYCLE ARCHITECTS + PLANNING (CAP) a collaborative design practice with offices in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Colin has worked on a wide range of award-winning projects in both the public and private sector. His domestic work includes residential, commercial and transportation projects for agencies such as the RTA, MTA, Port Authority, and New York City Transit and also for development enitities and private clients. His international work includes projects in Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Africa, Haiti, and China. Colin has worked for FxFowle, STV, Davis Brody Bond, H2l2 and Kohn Pedersen over his 20-year ca¬reer. IGC-Gowanus Mixed Use Development
Brooklyn, New York
Design Principal-The Brooklyn area of Gowanus one of the oldest communities in New York City is quickly transforming from an area renowned for it’s pockets of super fund sites dotting the landscape to a vibrant artists enclave. MAP/CAP have been working with the owner of the Old Can Factory on 3rd Avenue and 3rd Street located at the communities core to renovate the existing building in addition to developing 300,000 square feet of available floor area in to housing and mixed use community base program.

Brooklyn, New York
Design Principal-As Brooklyn develops into a cultural center, more and more businesses desire to be located there. CAP is designing Williamsburg’s first true office tower for a local development company. The 12- story structure will rise from a retail base. Office spaces will be graced with ample outdoor space and skyline views to attract the technology, arts, media, and entertainment tenants seeking high quality space in Brooklyn. The top floors of the building will accommodate a bar and restaurant, and it will be crowned by a mechanical penthouse enclosure that will mark its place in the evolving Williamsburg skyline.
Halsey Street Eatery
Newark, New Jersey
Design Principal-MAP is working with the renowned restaurateur Mike Vann to develop a new eatery for downtown Newark New Jersey. The restaurant will be a 10,000 square foot space and the teams are responsible for both the interiors and design of the kitchen. The eatery will be the cornerstone of a new downtown dinning corridor.
Quay Street Residential Development
Brooklyn, New York
Design Director-Working with a local development company, CAP is providing design and construction documents for a new 64 unit residential development near the Brooklyn waterfront. The project will take advantage of the City's inclusionary zoning regulations to increase the buildable floor area by 25%. Unit typologies are designed to appeal to the developer's target demographic, and have amenities like lofts, outdoor terraces, and unmatched views across the East river.
National Museum of Afghanistan
Kabul, Afghanistan
Architect-MAP was selected to participate in the second round of design for a new National Museum of Art in Kabul, Afghanistan. The museum will balance the need for security and opacity with a desire to care for and exhibit the rich history of Afghanistan to a public that has little experience with museums. The solution was based on ideas of simplicity, elegance and respect for the country’s rich history.
L’Ecole de Choix Campus
Mirebalais, Haiti
Design Director-The team designed and constructed a 20 classrooms campus of 50 square meters each. These classrooms are designed and arranged into clusters of three units. The classroom units are composed on the hillside site in an informal manner, mimicking the nearby villages in both spatial character and social informality. The project was featured in Architectural Record in 2012.
FXCollaborative, New York- Dubai, Senior Designer-
Senior Designer- I spent eight years at FxFowle and was an Associate of the firm. I was one of four Senior Designers in the International Studio and led the firms Transportation/Infrastructure group. I had the responsibility of working to grow the discipline within the firm. I led the marketing and proposal efforts for projects across all typologies. Additionally, I was responsible for searching out young talent, interviewing and hiring the majority of the design staff. I was also the leader of the Design Core, an Advanced Design group within FXFOWLE.
The Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Crossing
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Senior Designer/ Project Manager- Design and project management for the The Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Crossing, a new 1.7-kilometer bridge, when completed will be the largest and tallest spanning arch bridge in the world. The bridge’s form, an arch, is informed by culture, topography, light, and Arabic script. The bridge incorporates two metro lines, pedestrian pathways and a new ecological habitat at the center of the span.
Opera House Station
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Senior Designer/ Project Manager- Design and project management for the Green Line Opera House Station, part of an 11 kilometer long extension of the Dubai Metro Green Line which extends from AlJadaf to International City. The extension consists of five new stations. The line will cross the Dubai creek on the planned Sixth Crossing Bridge and interconnect with the Blue Line, which will run along Emirates Road. The Opera House Station is a multi-modal transit hub that contains a bus facility and ferry station.
Baghdad National Stadium
Baghdad, Iraq
Senior Designer/ Project Manager- Design and management of the project team and design consultants for a FIFA regulation 100,000 spectator stadium. The project included the master planning of a sports campus to include parking, residential facilities, conference centers and practice stadiums. Key to the proposal was our respect of the brown-field site and its relationship to the central business district of downtown Baghdad.

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Senior Designer/ Project Manager- Design and management of a project team and design consultants for Parcel 209, a mixed use development within the King Abdullah Financial District, a new business city north of downtown Riyadh. The project is comprised of two residential buildings with at-grade retail. Key to the projects are their transitional spaces and courtyards that link the project’s street level via and a landscaped courtyard to a wadi level retail development.

Senior Designer/ Project Manager- Design and management of a project team for a mixed–use development in Riyadh. The resulting design draws inspiration from multiple sources, including the shape of Al Khozama, a flower unique to the Saudi Arabian Kingdom. The key program elements included a 450–room, five–star hotel, a mosque, commercial office space, retail and restaurant venues, parking, and several indoor and outdoor public spaces

Station Architect/Designer - Developed station architecture for the 42nd and 14th street stations. Coordinated engineering disciplines to meet client requirements. Designed station entrances and ancillary structures for 86th, 72nd, 42nd and 14th Street.

Designer/ Project Manager- Design and management of a project team for a new multi-story parking facility for JetBlue Airways. The team took the project from design development, through construction documents and construction administration.

Designer/ Project Manager- Designed a rehab and reuse of the historic George Washington Bus Terminal Designed by Pier Luigi Nervi. Developed details to modernize the station and refine the existing circulation.

Project Designer- Designed the replacement of a 60-year-old bridge in Salem, Oregon. Conducted a visual analysis to determine the urban design and view shed implications of the proposed structure. Managed the project team and was the primary client contact.
