My architectural story began as a child. I would spend countless hours constructing houses, cityscapes, and structures with LEGO building blocks. At a young age, I had a talent for art. I was enrolled in an at home art school while attending middle school. My uncle is also in the architecture field and encouraged me along the way.
I enrolled at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1998. Starting my freshman year, I obtained an internship at Harry Weese Associates (which later merged with Gensler Associates), while balancing a full time school schedule.
I am a licensed architect in Illinois and Wisconsin. My strongest skill is my ability to produce detailed, coherent and efficient construction documents in both Autodesk® Revit® (click here for a sample) and in AutoCAD®. My diverse experience contributes to this.
I spend many of my Saturdays volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. It is a great experience to work with the families that are going to live in the houses that we build. It is also a great problem solving activity and opportunity to demonstrate leadership skills. Working in the construction field also develops a better understanding between how things are built and how they are detailed on construction documents.
At IPSA Corporation, one of my main responsibilities was the coordination of construction documents through the City of Chicago permitting process. This process taught me how to efficiently get through the obstacles of City Hall and how to produce better construction documents by deciding what relevant building code information and details are necessary.
I keep current with industry trends. I am a LEED® Accredited Professional with three specialties: Building Design and Construction; Interior Design and Construction; and Homes. I also have the new EDAC (Evidence-based Design Accreditation and Certification) credential, which focuses on design strategies based on evidential findings and research. I am a certified Project Manager with the State of Illinois Capital Development Board. I attend AIA lectures, subscribe to various trade magazines and keep up with the latest industry news.
My mastery in industry related software is reflected with my Autodesk® Revit® Architecture 2012 Professional Certification and Autodesk® AutoCAD® 2012 Professional Certifications.
My main goal in 2012 is to run my fifth Chicago marathon. I want to truly "master" Revit and start my own Revit blog. I also plan on taking the Construction Specification Institute’s Construction Document Techologist (CDT) exam.
