Modern Space, Inc., San Juan, PR, US, Owner / Architectural Designer / Project Manager

JAN 2009 – PRESENT: Owner at MODERNSPACE, INC. San Juan, Puerto Rico
COMMERCIAL + RESIDENTIAL DESIGN-BUILD [Office, Retail and Hospitality] ( )

POSITION [Project Designer and Project Manager]

Responsible for more than 100k SF of remodeled interior spaces, building front facades and outdoor terraces through design-build small scale projects that involved business development with marketing and bidding negotiations for RFP’s.

I took the knowledge I had for seven years working as an architectural designer at the different architectural firms in the States and applied them to consult the private sector in Puerto Rico for a period of 4 years with an additional responsibility in construction management because all the projects were related to building and remodeling. I am always involved in the design production but as the volume of work increased over the years I had to bring a design team to develop full set of architectural drawings applying artistic expertise and technical skills to create freehand sketches with computer aided softwares for presentations, renderings and site plans.

Throughout this period my secondary role was to oversee a construction crew at the job site to ensure the quality of a well designed project while handling invoices, payrolls and payments on each one of the different phases of the construction.

I came to Puerto Rico and took the liberty to start up this business regardless of the economic hardship that the construction industry is facing but these experiences helped me understand better my role as a designer through construction methods and therefore my knowledge to develop better architecture. I am now ready to continue my journey as an architect and hoping to develop these experiences to a higher level.
