About

I am a graduating architecture graduate student of University at Buffalo, the State University of New York. Though first attracted by the dazzling title of architect, I have come to realize that nowadays the design principle has changed. It is not only soundly based on fact but creativity, imagination, craft and skill are required to discover new principles and to integrate them in designed artifacts. I’m interested in “good fit” architecture and how it supports the high level of human performance. When “good fit” architecture is achieved, people get pleasure in occupying it; they feel good about using it and it becomes attractive and meaningful to them. During my graduate research career, I participated in the Material Culture Research Group and Inclusive Design Research Group. The material Culture Group was focused on exploring ways in which the culture of materials shapes our environment and contributes to our constructive sensibilities. From it, I understood material and learned construction through full scale fabrication, assembly and installation. The Inclusive Design Group is associated with the IDeA Center (Center for Inclusive Design and Environmental Access) at the University at Buffalo. The research group focuses on using multidisciplinary information such as ergonomics and psychology to create more fitting environments for a greater range of human abilities. From it, I understand that being a good designer not only needs to have strong concept, but also have to be user friendly.

I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Physics from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China. Having the background in physics enables me to think about structure while designing. Also, my bilingual background would benefit my potential employer for international projects.
