Marc G. Andre Architects, LLC, Fairfield, CT, US, Associate Project Designer
The experience with Marc G. Andre Architects has been a well rounded overview of the architectural profession. With a great independence I have worked on over fifty projects, most of which high-end residential designs, several restaurants and retail stores, as well as large scale projects for the rebuilding of Haiti. My involvement would begin from the initial meetings with clients and schematic design, through working with consultants, construction documents, and construction observation, to the project completion. I have been given the chance to examine closely the process of construction and contribute by developing fine finishing details in the office and on-site. While building I would participate in finding solutions for uprising challenges. Within the office I have been driven to improve and develop the image of the company by creating new visual presentations, marketing materials and strategies using my artistic skills. Introducing interns to the daily routines of an architectural office, teaching them essential skills, and managing their work, has been a particularly enjoyable undertaking.
In addition, Marc has revealed to me the business element of the profession and the importance of a client network. With his example I have understood the value of commitment, patience and persistence, and the need of taking one step at a time on the way to success.
scalar Architecture, New York, NY, US, Junior Project Designer
Working in an office of three presented me with the opportunity to be a part of every event in the office. The principal, Julio Salcedo, was promoting an open studio style of work, which included brainstorming sessions for the multiple competitions we participated in. During the process of collaboration we could learn from each other’s work and knowledge, while developing and refining design ideas.
Having gained Julio’s trust, I had the pleasant prospect of working with clients independently. I led the projects and provided the connection between the clients and the builders. Creating and working out details transformed ideas to real objects.
