Boston Valley Terra Cotta, Architectural Drafter
The company is the nation’s most specialized architectural terra cotta manufacturer. It has custom replicated terra cotta masonry as early as the 1700's for historic preservation projects around the country, and is the only US manufacturer of ceramic rain screen systems. Methods to replicate terra cotta products include hand pressing, ram pressing, slip casting, and extrusion performed on the factory floor by professional clay artists. The pieces themselves must consider the structure, ornament, and how it sits in the building which is either recreated from samples, site surveys or photographs.
My role was to administer projects represented to the architects and contractors and between the manufacturing personnel on the floor. Drafted AutoCAD drawings of historic terra cotta masonry for factory reproduction, and assisted staff architect with miscellaneous schematic design development, designed new architectural technology and assisted AIA presentation development
