Architecture has been a dream of mine since childhood. Later in life, I found myself revisiting those unrealized aspirations of my childhood and decided "if not now, then never"... and leaped.
I have been employed at B Five Studio, LLP and Wesley Wei Architects since receiving my Masters of Architecture degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2005. Both of my positions at B Five Studio, LLP and Wesley Wei Architects included a wide range of responsibilities: design development; construction documentation, administration, management; project and office management. Computer programs utilized were AutoCAD, Vector Works, 3D Max, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, and Sketch-Up.
During my employment at B Five Studio, LLP I worked on various projects, I’d like to share about four. First, I assisted the project manager with the Berrie Residence, 5700 SF single family home reconstruction. My responsibilities included the preparation of presentation drawings, surveying existing site conditions; construction documentation; documentation coordination and integration of construction, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and structural design; construction administration including site visits, meeting minute preparation and distribution, and communication with general contractors.
Second, the newly constructed 10 story addition of the National Board of Medical Examiners Building (NBME), a 90,000 SF administrative building. My responsibilities included a thorough punch list review. Also details and location drawings of the ADA compliant signage throughout the new spaces, including stair towers, emergency exit diagrams for each floor, parking garage, lavatories, and room numbers. Following the completion of the new addition, the undertaking of the renovation of the existing 5 story main building. Tasks were surveying existing site conditions; construction documentation: demolition, existing construction to remain, and new work; MEPS and data/telephone/power system document coordination; and new furniture system layout configuration.
Finally, two smaller size projects were Kater Street Millwork and Novick Garden. Both project’s involved surveying the existing site, design studies, and investigation of materials and products. Many design variations were studied as 3D Sketch-Up models.
During my employment at Wesley Wei Architects I had the chance to work on many projects, two I’d like to share. First, the Quarry Street Residence, a single family, four story, 3660 SF, new masonry construction. My responsibilities included conceptual design proposals, product and material investigations, the preparation of the complete set of construction documentation with the integration of structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing system design. Though this project was not constructed, it was a great learning experience in a throughly detailed set of construction documents.
Second, The Folk Arts Cultural Treasures School (FACTS), located within an existing five (5) story concrete and masonry building with an adjacent exterior play yard, a total of 56,000 SF. The last phase was the Main Entry, consisting of vestibule, canopy, stair, ramp, yard and gates. I participated in it’s design, product and material selection, required code research, preparation of construction documents. Also, I assisted in the facilitation of required zoning permit applications.
