Employment

Sundance Architectural Products, Orlando, FL, US, Draftsman/Designer

Currently a draftsman/designer at Sundance Architectural Products I have been given a unique and eye-opening perspective on construction documents currently being produced in the architectural industry. For the past year I have had the opportunity to review hundreds of plans from firms all over the United States. That analysis has revealed what I consider to be an undesirable trend in the profession. Architects appear to have abrogated many of the responsibilities they previously shouldered. Detailing of building components has become vague and it has been left up to the contractors and sub-contractors to "fill in the blanks".

My design philosophy and approach to creating superior construction documents remain what I speculate would now be considered "old school". For example, if there are changes being made to a set of drawings, I make sure that in addition to the drawings being re-issued a concise outline is sent out which clearly states what has been revised. It is not left up to the contractors or sub-contractors to sift through an entire set of plans in order to determine if a revision has affected their submittal.

That is the level of expertise, dedication and professionalism I continually strive for in my profession.
