I have a Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago and an MA in Urban Design from Newcastle University in England. I am proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, the Adobe Creative Suite including Premier, AutoCAD, Google SketchUp, and 3D Studio Max. I also have experience using ArchiCAD, Rhino, and Revit. I am very familiar with both Mac and Windows operating systems. I have extensive experience with drafting (by hand), residential housing design, ecological planning, model making, freehand drawing, architectural programming, photography, digital animation, and video editing. I am a quick learner especially concerning computer skills and work very hard to become proficient in any programs necessary.
I participated in a Design-Build project through the Illinois Institute of Technology and Professor Frank Flury January-July 2009. We designed and built, with the help of a local Architecture firm and the community, a 27 square meter field chapel in Bödigheim, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. We spent one semester researching, designing, and producing drawings. We traveled to the site in March and presented options to the community and local authority. We received extensive community support and were able to travel to Germany again from June through July of 2009 to construct the building with donated materials. Our design also involved 400 square meters of landscaping. This project won the American Institute of Architects, Chicago’s Outstanding Building Award in the Fall of 2010.
I have just finished a Masters Degree in Urban Design. My thesis project was about Urban Design and Healthy Living in a semi-urban residential area. I chose to focus on Healthy Living because of its importance in today’s society amidst the worldwide obesity epidemic accompanying an escalation in a variety of physical and mental health problems that can be addressed, in part, through the built environment. Sustainability is also a minor focus, and there are many overlaps between designing for health and for sustainability.
