About

Shawn shapes the platform of SMLA by advanced research through collaborations, partnerships and autonomous design solutions with deep knowledge of architectural history, contemporary discourse and construction practices.

Shawn has been widely published through receiving numerous design awards of projects with Morris Architects, HOK and his own practice of SMLA. He has taught design studios and been a juror on numerous studios reviews at the University of Houston and a digital media assistant at Rice University. Concurrent to the practice of SMLA, Shawn is a project designer with Morris Architects providing academic intuition to projects in practice and pursuit for new projects. During previous tenure with HOK, he played a key design role in the awarded competition redevelopment of La Guardia Airport in July 2015 by the NY/NJ Port Authority, Governor Cuomo and Vice President Joe Biden.

Shawn is a graduate of the University of Houston where he earned a Bachelor of Architecture. He then earned a Master of Architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD).
