Fundamental changes in the process of delivering buildings are about to revolutionize the structure and practice of architectural design. The management practices which have doubled industrial production efficiencies since the mid-1960s, coupled with the power of computer tools and Building Information Modeling (BIM) are recognized as now necessary inclusions to current practice, to initiate a similar trajectory in the construction industry. The role of the architect at the realization of this change is not yet clearly defined, but it is recognized that it will be significantly altered from that of today. IIT introduces the new IBD curriculum to insure that education prepares graduates for a rewarding and significant role in the emergent state of the profession.
Almost universally architects engage the practice of their art with the hope or expectation that the efforts will culminate in a realized project. Design is acknowledged as a component of a more holistic undertaking; that of creating an actualized built environment. The Master of Integrated Building Delivery program will educate architects to more actively participate in, guide, and/or undertake the full range of entrepreneurial and innovative activities comprising design, develop and build initiatives.

SAIC's Interior Architecture program experiments with definitions of space and social ideas through digital explorations, drawn and modeled work, and work built at a range of scales. SAIC's Interior Architecture students become experts at integrating relationships between the body, objects, events, and environments, reconceptualizing the entire habitable realm to sustain the art of living.
The Interior Architecture program is unique in positioning the designer with the artist, allowing for development of disciplinary strengths while demanding interdisciplinary research, thinking and practice, and material explorations. The AIADO department offers graduate tutorials, studios, seminars, and labs that address current cultural issues. Artists, designers, and architects share in critical seminars and work together in the first seminar graduate studio. Art, architecture, and design history courses complement studio work, and students may elect fine art and design courses from across other departments at SAIC as well.
During the second year, SAIC students concentrate on individual work. Recent projects have dealt with a wide range of global issues such as domesticity, violence in the city, urban decay, nuclear testing, healing, the virtual home, the nomadic office, modularity, and mobility. At the culmination of their studies, students participate in the annual SAIC Graduate Thesis Exhibition or AIADO Thesis Exhibition.
