Master’s Program Projects at University of Toronto

2005 | Re - Development of Toronto City Centre Airport, Toronto
Final Year Thesis, Master of Urban Design, University of Toronto
Supervisor: Robert Levit, Director Master of Urban Design, University of Toronto

The concept is to create another kind of landscape with a view to restoring history and to establish a metaphysical relationship between the natural and the artificial by restoring the traces of original geography. This thesis works with the original land form of the site and the city, establishes an intelligent approach to reconstitute historical Garrison Creek and ravine traces, works with the politics of City Centre Airport and made it possible to accommodate 30,000 people to live there in 6,098,400 sq. ft. build able area, in a total area of 8,712,000 sq. ft., for an approximate cost of about $6 million.

2004 | Museum of Art and Design (MAD), 2 Columbus Circle, Manhattan, New York
Design Studio, University of Toronto
Supervisor: Professor Scott Cohen, Program Director, Harvard University, Graduate School of Design

The crucial challenge of the project is to exploit projective geometry in architecture in a very tight site, involving formal analysis, a distinctive synthesis of architectural typologies, descriptive geometries, contemporary programs, and digital media suggesting a new relationship between architecture and geometry. There is an extensive study of the geometry of two wobbly spirals derived from a golden rectangle which derive the form and shape of the museum. One ascending spiral forms the main circulation of the museum beginning from the ground level and the other descending spiral forms the floors plates of the exhibition spaces and completes the single continuous journey getting down from the top.

2005 | Enhancement Highway 401 and Tilbury, Chatham Kent. Ontario
Design Studio, University of Toronto
Supervisor: BROWN + STOREY ARCHITECTS

Chatham Kent is located in the heart of south western Ontario. There are three major US border crossing within just an hour drive. Highway 401 the provincial highway and NAFTA corridor bisects Chatham-Kent. Tilbury is one of the different communities of Chatham Kent, located on the west edge with easy highway access of Highway 401 with two interchanges and less than half hour away from Windsor/Detroit border crossing. Highway 401, cross road Main Street, sudden grid change, railway track area intensifies the challenge of enhancement of the town. The idea was to use these arbitrary placement of infrastructure as a strong component to exploit the potential of Tilbury as the focal point of the Kent through creating a interconnecting loop to bind Tilbury and 401 with vibrant public attractions and new settlement to drive the people from the country and from U.S.

2004 | Yonge Street and Lakeshore Drive, Toronto
Design Studio, University of Toronto
Supervisor: Robert Levit, Director Master of Urban Design, University of Toronto

The project is about the development of the intersection of Yonge Street and Lakeshore Drive in city of Toronto. The concept is to create an intimate relationship between the city and the water extending the city in to the water and bringing the water in to the city and to reorganize the site as the beginning point of the city (0 km Toronto) through the longest street Yonge A Gigantic wall consists of series of public activities alongside the Yonge symbolically takes the city to water and has its climax point at the intersection (Yonge Street and Lakeshore) as a sloping vibrant, 24 hour public activity place which follows the natural slope of Toronto’s topography. The strategic interlock of the city and the water recognizes the fact that there is a lake behind the city and there is need for a clear public identity for the waterfront.
