Des Moines Mixed-Use Development

On the boards, a mixed-use development in Des Moines, WA. The historic building, built in the 1940’s, was originally used as a movie theater. It is surrounded by local businesses and in walking distance from the Marina and Beach Park. The goal of the project is to repurpose the space within the existing building to create new retail space and residential units.

The 8 residential units will be comprised of open, bright studios and 2-3 bedroom units. Units will feature large windows and include access to private and common outdoor spaces. From the rooftop deck, residents will enjoy magnificent views of Puget Sound, the Olympic Mountains and the cityscape. The commercial spaces below will be accessible to the community, offering a range of public activities and possibly educational programs.

The overall design retains the historical value of the building, while also integrating modern elements to fit within the surrounding urban scene. The modern yet contextual aesthetic complements the neighborhood with an attractive mix of existing brick and metal, and a variety of siding materials with natural wood accents.
