community farm

This project takes place in an old mining village. The mine, which has been closed for 30 years, was the only workplace for the families in the village and 14 families are still living there on small benefits from the state. The aim of the project was to create jobs for these families on a community farm, as well as to improve their living circumstances by giving access to a bathroom, a laundry room, and to information via computers.

With the help of a caretaker, the local families could plant fruits and vegetables on the farm. This produce, together with mushrooms, fruits and spices collected from the neighboring forests, could be processed, packaged, and sold either in the farm's own small shop, or transported to cities.

The project would reuse an old demolished building, and bricks from other ruins on the site. The house was designed in a way that it could be built mostly with the workforce of the local community.
