ANDRÁSSY 47

The protected residential building stands on Andrássy Avenue on Budapest’s World Heritage Site. It is a stunning transformation into a modern green roofed house where the original architectural elegance from the late 19th century complements luxurious up-to date facilities and contemporary architecture.

The current urban development regulations only permit the conversion of the attic and the covering of the inner courtyard. The tenement houses from the turn of the century with the narrow streets of the downtown and with bad spatial proportions suffer from the lack of liveable, green places. The basic concept of the project is to create an oasis-like green design of the attic, which provides refuge from the swarming world of the city center. The roof garden elevated above the foliage of the trees in the Avenue allows the local residents to enjoy the opportunities offered by a big city, while at the time they can retreat from it, and take pleasure in the panorama of the hills of Buda, or the sight provided by the City Park.
