Homeboy on TuppervillePhotographs: Michael RotondiStory: Orhan Ayyüce
Homeboy ... click your heels three times and repeat "I want to go home...I want to go home..."
Your airplane ride east and Dorothy's balloon ride west both connect to a shiny, translucent glass city. Dorothy's has her precious Emerald, yours is the more pedestrian Tupperville...but isn't this a stretch of imaginative analogy... I know that..
For me Homeboy is less like Hans Belmer distorts and more like Dare Wright's The Lonely Doll, a series of photo-books by 50s-60s fashion model Dare Wright featuring her alter-ego the Lonely Doll.
Reading too much again,,,, both Homeboy and Lonely Doll share a common 'i want to return home' psychology. Personification at its best.
I like the Tupperville panel the very best. It reminds me of Silicaboy...
