In the 1950s few people had the grit and character to withstand the brunt of the House UnAmerican Activities Committee. Frank Wilkinson (pdf) a Los Angeles housing official who championed the development of public housing in Mexican-American neighborhood of Chavez Ravine, was one man whose refused to be intimidated or bullied.
