The National Capital Planning Commission yesterday rejected the design for an immense glass canopy covering the courtyard of the historic Old Patent Office Building, home to two Smithsonian Institution museums. Read
perhaps they were afraid it will be as sucessful as the british museum roof was which is forcing the museum to redesign the ciruclation to accomodate the masses that want to go to the new roofed space.
btw, this does not look like the british museum roof -- its only similarity is that is it a glass roof -- completely different
Conceptually it is similar with its juxtaposition of old and new. Strategically it is similar by transforming a courtyard into a semi-closed space. Structurally it is a similar strategy as the roof is designed to be detached from the historical buildings that cannot carry the load. I'm not saying that there are no differences, like Foster didnt repurpose the central building as radically as the British Museum. The structural system here are grided versus the triangles there. But then, subtle differences aside, the solutions are very similar for the naked eyes. I think, politically the Smithsonian would not want to bear too much resemblances to the British Museum, vice versa.
going a bit far, dont you think Per?
behave yourself.
it is not as though anyone that uses a grid in a three-dimensional manner need cite your fancy graphics - a matrix / grid / spaceframe / honeycomb / fishnet is a material for design, it does not come inherently complete.
You forgot to add one thing " before the 3D-H was develobed and made the digital options avaible" -- Othervise even the thief that steal a bicycle with a children seat, will be a Hero compared academic standards, even you crowd want a comic figure rather than a real artist, doing your lazyworks ?
Architecture instead of surrounding the fantastic options make the eyeworks real , made into arts of crime ,realy how long do you think such perception will last ?
Do you even know what architecture in the future are there for ? if not providing the exact technikes I describe while your best are what ,ansver that ---- are your words here your art or can you provide something better than 3D-H ???
Is stealing it, and make the history alway's remember describe the architectural world of today, today where best practice are old way's rewritten into code, where you make full focus on the idiotisynkratier you try hinder prospect killing the obvious visionary with theaves mind.
Leo,
I don't know what 3d-h is either. And I can't follow per's ranting. Does he think Michelangelo was a theif for stealing the idea of Brunelleschi's dome and that they both stole a bicycle from the Pantheon?
stefani realy this is a sad buisness ,see I know these old guy's we also have em in denmark, trouble is that eletronics is something you just invested in and that's taken care for, --- don't forget to acturly look into the 3D-H aproach as then you see how limited these sudden assembly framework structures work. Now you know that my vorry is that such great crators create more than just what they only see as a replacement of the hippie sting and mesh structures, --- they create a criminal mind that fact will undermine their own reputation.
Reson --- isn't that obvious. So nomatter if I cach in someone will pay, maby more than they would want. Just emagine being a famous architect where in 10 years everyone will know better.

What an outrage!
Typical of Washington bureaucracy.
Doesn't it look almost like the British Museum?

What is 3D-H? Now I'm confused, heh.
