Nottingham Contemporary by Caruso St John

Adrian Searle reviews the new gallery by Caruso St John which opens this Saturday with exhibitions featuring early work by David Hockney and the artist Frances Stark. Searle is pleased that the architects chose not to overshadow the art with their building.

He writes; Nottingham Contemporary, which opens on Saturday, happens to be a series of interconnected boxes and a bunker; its entire lower floor is dug into the sandstone cliff on which the building is perched. But it isn't a boring building, and the galleries are well-proportioned, flexible spaces. Their scale feels good. Guardian
