Despite repeated denials by senior management at Foster and Partners (who insisted just two weeks ago that the firm could avoid any cuts to its 1,300-strong workforce) the practice announced yesterday it is proposing redundancies – understood to number between 300 and 400 staff members – and has closed both its Istanbul office and Berlin office. Foster and Partners cut back its London office by nearly 300 architects and closed its Berlin and Istanbul offices yesterday. Some insiders say the decision came as, soon to be lord no more, Norman Foster has to restore his office size to 800 of pre tax evasion days with a lawsuit looming over.
It is a sad day indeed for many, who found themselves unemployed over night in front of the world's perhaps most prolific offices.
Umm wow,
That is a lot of people.
That's quite a cut. Especially harsh as a lot of people I know went there in recent years as a compromise: trading a more intimate office with more personal influence and exciting times for the safety of a huge office with work coming in from everywhere.
Not a good sign...
