is a legendary cinéma vérité short film made in 1976 by Claude Lelouch. Using a Ferrari 275 GTB early one August morning, Lelouch attached a camera to the bumper of the car and sped through the streets of Paris. He gave the driver a set route from Porte Dauphine, through the Louvre, to the Basilica of Sacre Coeur, which is straight through the heart of Paris. Too cool. I particularly like the slide into the oncoming lane at the Opera.
Also at Google Video | discussion from IMDB | DVD
I remember seeing this in 1991 at a film festival in Ann Arbor. But I always thought it was on a motorcycle. Very cool to see it again.
Oh.
My.
GOD!!
I lost track of the number of reds he went through, but he only hit about 3 or 4 green lights in the entire movie. I've got goosebumps and I can't stop shaking... It's been 5 months to the day since I've driven a car...
Javier, I love you.
Love you too, driftwood. Vroom.
hm. do we know that this wasn't heavily edited (i.e., really a fiction)? maybe he DID stop for those reds, but just manipulated the video to obscure the stop. the soundtrack may not have been made simultaneous with the video, right?
it is a rush, though, if i suspend my disbelief...
Well, they didn't have that ability back in 1976. The editing necessary would have been obvious.
As for the soundtrack, perhaps not. There are a few things that sound wonky to my ear. There's a lot posted on the IMDB site that talks about this.
Just to show my age I actually saw this back in 1976 at the preview to another movie I was going to see( Mel Brooks Young Frankenstein, I think ) I was 16 yrs old and I remember a ton of it I have had a couple friends see over the years and we still think it was amazing. Seeing it full theatre screen size when I was 16 was an awesome experience. Thanks for letting me relive it.
Steven your too much of a skeptic, I tell you having seen it back then it was complete disbelief, all I wanted to do was to actually see the car!
the driver sure isn't too bothered about the highway code... well it's france after all. i love that short flick, i remember seeing it on tv a few years ago and i thought it was amazing. the sound track does not match the driving though.
18 Green lights
18 Red lights/stop signs
1 Yellow light
and a grand morning wake up *
plus some love at the end
nice javier -
