from last night's architects duel in NYC. Curbed (is this a compliment?): Further Evidence Architects are the New Rock Stars + more. Who won?...
A Diller, Scofidio + Renfro team member reports that Smith-Miller+Hawkinson's Jason Carlow beat Matthew Johnson of DS+R. Our source tells us that the SM+H-er may have won the popular vote because allegedly they had more of their people in the crowd, but at the end of the day (or night) DS+R "exuded more class and style." The turn out was "around 350 people."

Just updated the entry with more info... Poor DS+R... always the underdogs.
i always knew architecture was a circus freak show but this is an all time low.
will $20 bill tips be required?
With regards to the comments made by said "source" at the Master vs. Disaster Architecture Duel, the event was neither about class or style, but about uniting the architecture community to generate energy, creativity, and a lot of (too often forgotten by over-intellectualizing the process) FUN! I would think that the folks over at DS+R would have appreciated the realization of “architecture†through performance. And there is no question that Jason Carlow performed better. One has only to look at the photos of both contestants' final models to see that there was simply no contest. Jason Carlow won because he deserved to win, and the fact that Matt Johnson got as many votes as he did suggests that it was in fact he that had the larger contingency of "friends" in the audience. But, sadly, not enough it seems.
what's with the glasses?
most of y'all look like my rocker/straightedge friends from home!
do you guys also have tatoos with stars and flames?
is that the arch scene in nyc?
i'm coming!
Look Mr. Harvard/Yale shades guy. Nobody “wins†when we dress up like an extra from the Martix and dance around like a reject from an InSync video. We’ve got to maintain the dignity of our profession. How are we ever going to bring back Archagram and Superstudio and all that great stuff with tubes sticking out the top if we go around all shaving and cutting our hair and shit.
Besides anything that telescopes unexpectedly is better than anything that doesn’t.
Seriously though, that was weird. Since when do we have net working events?
I though it felt like a 90’s retro launch party but then I though the Venice Biennale felt like a boat show for architecture.
How come the kids who organized that took more pictures of each other than they did of us? Charles “Who the Fuck is Charles Renfro†Renfro was there. They should have gone all paparazzi on that guy instead of taking pictures of themselves in the bathroom mirror.
What a bunch of posers...get real and start designing real architecture.
Just saw the model shots...WTF
What a waste of an hour. I could s*** something more interesting.
