Any experience anyone? Considering the vast amount of public domain stuff that underlies pretty much all building practice, as well as the huge costs associated with pursuing infringements (not the type of overhead margins AE firms usually sport) is it worth it? Beyond the intellectual kudos for "holding a patent" does anyone have experience with it actually being profitable in AE through licensing fees etc as is practice elsewhere?

Take a few minutes to go over the TED talk about patents and clothing design. It's a bit old (back from 2010, I believe), but still very relevant to the topic. I'm too lazy to give you a link today.
