The difficulty lie in the fact that we must use the good graphics on the right bildings. And most of those graphics come from animist religions, which includes mysticism, belief. An example i like is the pyramids of Egypt. They were made square seen from above and triangular in elevation, because they were the representation of stars on earth.Stars here were a link between the supreme strength or gods and our world. The pyramids a communication mean.

You mustn't enter in the trap of washing your topic only in the architectural field. What eyes see aren't what is really, maybe it is for humans but not in reality. That's why animals don't see what we see.Eyes receive 80% of the external information, imagine their impact in our feelings, moods. For instance each colour inspire a feeling, likewise paintings.

angle of repose does not apply to large stone blocks....they can be stacked in a vertical wall, which would be 90 degrees..
curtkram
Mar 4, 15 10:01 am
as a matter of scale, wouldn't there be a point at which a large block would be considered a granular material?
i don't think you could stack those blocks in a vertical wall that tall without some pretty significant lateral support.

They were build nearly 4500 years ago, without our current technology but they still live in the absence of real restauration.I wonder how many of our towers will last 4500 years with no restauration. That is where i was getting.Their builders have only two master words engineering and mysticism.I totally agree with Karl Marx, between our elementary need food and our most refined need culture, the mediator is work. From the moment when someone works and have a remunaration, and everyone does the same thing, the world reaches the social work, therefore universalization. All this to say that, culture is a finality. It expresses a state of mind elevation and to show it requires an extra contribution for instance, engineering, etc.
chigurh
Mar 4, 15 11:24 am
no.
angle of repose is a very specific scientific definition not some term that architects can use however they see fit by abstracting the concept, a 5 ton stone block/cube is not a "granular material".
yes about the lateral support, but then you are getting into building analysis/physics not soils/geotechnical physics.

Probably the best thing to do is redefining your graphics. It will be economic.I know artworks have an emotional character among those who design them, but stay focused on your building.Renovation is always better. On the other hand,if possible take your graphics and put them on the right building.

Mar 5, 15 12:42 pm
So... in green man's mind, some decorations make a building.
Rock art's crudeness is partially due to the fact that it was made using crude materials. So, obviously, the modern answer is some high tech (comparatively) materials with some copy of a design slapped on it. I think it is a great idea to take the process out of things and get right to the reproduction. I like where this is going.
Yes, yes, yes... preach on brother.

green man
Mar 5, 15 2:45 pm
Yes indeed......that's africa.I don't think they are appalling. They reflect emotions in their pure state.A mix of nature's colors:the purity of vegetation and the hardness of desert,in brief africa.Obviously without symmetry, balance that could make it less strong, but not appalling.High tech is a solution, also renovation for the old buildings.Another one could think they are in another point of view very soft, like me.
