I am a long time listener but first time caller :) Love the Archinect forums. I am super bummed out at the moment though.
I just finished spending $250 on the ultimate edition of Architect 3D and another $1700 on my new MacBook Pro with Retina Display. Was looking forward to an exciting phase where I could put both the powerful hardware and software to great work.
But, all I have now is a very slow MacBook pro that won't even open up a Safari tab. Opening up a Safari tab takes 6 minutes. Yes, I timed it! Anybody have any suggestions on what I can do?
Really want to get working with Architect 3D. Any help will be most welcome.

You should have just bought a PC. MACs serve more as fashion accessories than drafting/modelling tools. A well biuld PC will out-pace your PRO for half the price.
Also, what is Architect3D? I've just looked at their website and it looks just like the value-bin software I see in business stationary stores. Ditch the software and install Sketchup instead. It's free and should work just fine on your shiny rectangle.

If I'm ever self-employed again I plan to have a cheap PC as my drawing computer - drawing ONLY - and a Mac for everything else. Although i dislike Mac more and more with each software upgrade, it still beats MicroSoft for ease of use in every application except drawing.

Thank you Non and Donna for your replies. I managed to fix this problem. It turns out that the problem wasn't related to Architect 3D at all. I read this web post about how to fix a MacBook Pro running slow and it suggested an SMC reset, which is what I did.
Now, it is back to normal! The fix took just 10 seconds and a restart! Anyways, am very happy.
@Non - I am a bit of a musician as well. I love what the MacBook offers when it comes to editing my music, which is why I went Apple. I use Architect 3D because my cousin gave me some extensive training on it. Am aware of Sketchup but haven't spent a lot of time with it. I just might after what you have suggested.
@Donna - Taking it to the Genius bar was my next step. Glad I got it fixed myself though. I also see what you say about OS X Updates. Mac OS use to be light and very power efficient but Mavericks and the new Yosemite Beta have become power hungry. They are fine for light use but when you get into heavy multitasking, your Mac better have 8 GB of RAM or else you are going to experience general slowness.

Funny that Apple came across for some as a better alternative to mainstream because it seemed nonmainstream -people who wanted to stand out bought it- when all along it has become sign and symbol of contemprary commercialism. a niche that sold the idea of being niche that grew to overtake and define the mainstream. Not to mention that they run slave factories...so if you were registering your complains here in any of the recent Qatar threads about their labour issue, slavery and so on, on an Ipad mini say, or if you own one, then perhaps you're a bit of a hypocrite...and Im sure this is not restricted to Apple...or Qatar...
what are these people lining up for iPhone6 for, anyway

foxconn doesn't rely immigrant labor the way construction sites in qatar do. generally speaking, the chinese economy is actually quite different than that of qatar. of course that's not to say one is more or less evil than the other, just that the comparison is as thin as most of your posts.
apple initially differentiated itself from the pc by controlling both hardware and software (as did the commodore), whereas the pc started with gate's operating system and ibm's hardware, then expanded to encompass all sorts of other hardware companies. in the beginning apple really tried to set itself apart by pushing apple II's into schools, then their focus on quality and design came with the macs.
when they released an iphone in multiple colors and made of plastic, i-fans should have seen the end.

Both use slaves, both leads to cruelty, both lead to high rates of death, both value profit over human life...both do this knowingly and both are sanctioned by the local authorities and, de facto, by willing consumers.
Both are a clear consequence of a common tendency to use the disadvantaged poor -whether intra-locally or sourced elsewhere- in order feed the consumerist market, whether global or local.
It is your "criticism" that is consistently thin.

so are you mad at the chinese government for creating the institutional policies that allow 'slave labor' practices at foxxcon, or at western/white people for being who they are? just curious as to who you're wanting to hate this week. a michigan coach kept a football player on the field despite an apparent concussion this week. i would totally focus my faux-outrage on football, but then that might be too trendy.
if you watch football, you shouldn't buy a mac.

Bulgar, I don't agree about people being idiots, but I do agree with tammuz that many Mac users are unaware of how deeply they've been marketed to.
I use a PC at work and a Mac at home. Both have their good and bad points. Mac is inarguable prettier, both the hardware and the interface (Outlook is approaching 20 years of use and it still looks like my favorite description of early web pages: "angry salad" - it's just flat out ugly to look at).
But the most recent Mac updates, IMO, have gone toooooo far towards minimalism, to the point of no longer being intuitive, which is what was so great about Mac originally. I open iTunes with fear every day, because I'm never sure if all my music will have disappeared into the cloud or been reorganized in ways I can't find what I want. Boy howdy that iTunes Store sure opens at the drop of a hat, though!
I draft with Draftsight (free autocad clone) and it functions *significantly* better on PC than Mac.
