My fifth year comprehensive studio is currently in progress. With my past interest in community spaces and housing, I have focused my inquiry on improving living through the integration of community spaces. Specifically, I have focused on living for aging seniors and supporting program that integrates all ages and promotes connections with outdoor spaces.
You enter Century Commons though a glass atrium that opens into a large treed community space with an overlooking mezzanine. This space can be utilized by a few people or be transformed into a large gathering space. Attached to this spaces is a small fitness facility for residents. Above the community space are three levels housing for independent seniors. Residents enjoy private rooms in a home like setting centered around a hearth.
On the other side of the atrium is a community library with a children’s reading room as well as a small café. These two components will be the main catalyst for community interaction. In the center of Century commons is an open courtyard that has patios and walking paths open to the residents and public.
Century Commons is a place where residents from all walk can cross paths and interact together.
