Repositioned Museum of Tolerance

The concept of the building was to decrease the amount of south facing glazing, expand the rotunda into an atrium to allow a well distributed natural lighting system to infiltrate the building without being too much for the occupants. The expansion of the atrium creates a new interior public space that is now large enough to hold special events. The lifted programs allow the ground floor to be open. The radiating geometry is inspired by the existing ramping system and rotunda. The circularity of the building pays homage to the old building while the new iconic shape of the atrium creates a logo for the museum in plan and is now a recognizable shape in the urban landscape of Los Angeles.
