Pantanal Project

The Pantanal project is a broad intervention of the State of São Paulo Government to recover an area of 850.000 square meters on the banks of the Tiete River, occupied by an irregular settlement.

At the beginning of the State intervention on 1998 there were 8360 inhabitants living in degradeted and unhealthy homes.

The Pantanal Project proposed 1872 new housing units, commercial areas, four new schools, parks, health centers, and the refurbish of the irregular settlement. The infrastructure improvements extends the electricity, water, sewer and drainage system, and upgrades the road system.

To recover the environment the Project creates two public parks, and plant trees on the wide sidewalks.

The population participation on the decision-making has been assured by an extensive process of public debates.

I started my cooperation with Pantanal Project on 2003 , and finished on 2007.
