The Shanghai store started out as an interior fit out in a mall in Xintiandi, which is comparable to Soho. Soon all parties agreed that a major facade overhaul was necessary with the goal of making the store appear to stand alone. The interior concept of the Vera Wang stores include dark walls with deep blackened steel thresholds to the bridal lounges. The dark walls allow the white dresses to stand out against them. Alternatively, the facade is a double skin facade with clear glass and white matte glass that mimics the ephemeral quality of layered fabric. The blackened steel perches pop against the white facade. The facade was also a response to the desire for shopper privacy as well as a dynamic night time presence.
