Project brief to design a courthouse addressing the issues of structure and enclosure and the manipulation of form in accordance with typological concerns. This project requires a tightly-planned approach to building due to a limited contained urban site.
The Altrincham Law Courts Scheme consists of a series of sliding floors which rise up towards the principal front of the building on Market Street.
From within, public spaces offer enticing, dynamic waiting areas; pierced by voids which give the users a fluid insight into the rest of the building.
Towards the North side of the site, the building transforms it’s self into ordered and regular spaces which correspond to the serious nature of the Courtrooms.
