Maria Carolina Aguirre Arteaga is a postgraduate student from the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) and Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya(UPC), where she just finished her Master in Advanced Architecture as part of the Emergent Territories/Ecocities Research Studio, led by Willy Müller, with her Master Thesis Project "FLEXHUB DOCK: The Port of the Future"
In 2008 she received her Architect degree from Universidad Católica de Santiago de Guayaquil(UCSG) in her hometown in Ecuador, with her Graduate Thesis Project " Urban Design of the Border of the “Shipyard Neighborhood” " (as part of a Urban Renovation Proposal for Guayaquil City); being published in the largest national newspaper "Diario EL UNIVERSO" as part of a special publication: "Future City: University students expose their architectural ideals", printed and digital editions and being republished in 2011.
She has also carried out collaborative work in some private and public offices. In 2006 she collaborated with the Urban Planning Department of the Ministerio de Desarrollo Urbano y Vivienda (MIDUVI). In 2007 she worked with MALECON 2000 Foundation and the Instituto de Planificación Urbana y Regional(IPUR) within "Las Peñas Project" based on the historically most important neighborhood of Guayaquil. She has also developed particular and commercial projects in Ecuador. After her graduate studies, she took part in a Landscape Design Company as Chief Architect; until she decided to move to Barcelona, Spain to continue her studies. After obtaining her Masters, she moved to Shanghai, China where she is currently based.
