In this 1960s post-and-beam ranch, all of the interior walls are non-load bearing. By removing a partition wall and closet between the living room and kitchen area, I created a large open space, maximizing the open floor plan. The kitchen island is the central focus of the design scheme: it serves as an activity hub within the large living space. Clad in locally harvested walnut, the island toggles between the functionality and aesthetics of furniture, and the standard kitchen functions of cooking and cleaning.
