Concept: Mehndi
L’Hotel Mosaique is a boutique hotel with a restaurant and lounge, in Marrakech, Morocco. The design will be aimed to appeal mainly toward North African and European tourists. It will be modern and reflect sophisticated American design trends acceptable to a Moroccan aesthetic.
“Mehndi” is the Moroccan tradition of henna painting on the body. The history of mehndi is intimately connected to the flow of human movement. The henna plant is believed to bring good fortune, love, and protection from evil.
Mehndi incorporates many design elements that are uniquely Moroccan. Radial balance, organic patterns enveloped in geometric forms, and symmetry are typical of Moroccan architectural and mehndi designs.
The color palette of reds, gold, chocolate brown, black, and ivory will be influenced by the natural color of the henna as well as the human body. The careful balance of pattern and shape will create harmony while a strict color palette will unify the space.
