Broadmoor Shotgun House

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina's destruction, opportunities arose to rebuild and possibly
redefine the areas in and around New Orleans. This shotgun house was an exercise in examining
the typology and adapting it to the new, more stringent flood plane codes. It had to sit
7 feet above the ground and be under 500 square feet of enclosed space. This was accomplished
by merging the living room, dining room, and kitchen into one great central room
flanked by the two bedrooms. Large, shaded porches are provided to keep with the neighborhood's
social aspect as well as to protect the inhabitants from Louisiana's diverse weather
patterns. It was also designed using Fair Housing and LEED principles, and is therefore accessible
to a wide range of inhabitants.
