Sustainable Home

The project was to design a modularly constructed Habitat for Humanity home that focused on implementing passive solar energy design techniques and flexible interior layouts, exterior elevations, and modular construction components.

The design utilized a central porch that bridges across outdoor and indoor spaces to emphasize
the outdoors and the regional vernacular porch culture. The rainscreen cladding minimizes heat gain and features a reclaimed vinyl billboard vapor barrier that doubles as ornament because of its visibility through the gaps.

Research allowed me to gain a vast understanding of sustainable design techniques. Learning to navigate Climate Consultant, Revit solar studies, and a virtual wind simulator allowed me to continually refine my design. In addition, by visiting multiple Habitat builds I was able to grasp an understand of wood-framed construction techniques first hand.
