The Last Gate of Aleppo

Aleppo (Syria) is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world; It dates from the 6th millennium BC.The centerpiece of the city is a military castle. the city is enclosed within high walls with 9 gates. Each gate leads to a pathway with a specific function (residential, commercial, carpentry, etc). All of the 9 city pathways lead to the castle.

The main reason behind the destruction of the syrian historic sites is the lack of understanding of the importance of these sites. in addition, people had no knowldge of the history of architecture in these old sites. for these reasons, the aim of my project is to highlihgt the syrian history of architecture in a political timeframe leading to the current crisis.the site was choosen based on the above mentioned factors and is located in a tranisition area between the old and new city of Aleppo.

The Peace gate will be the last gate of Aleppo. it symbolizes the end of war and the begining of a new peaceful life for the Syrians. Under the gate, an exhibition of the old gates, explaining their History, and their functions in the past and in the present time.
