Arch Thesis // Encounter + Immerse

Rock concert stages follow a tradition in stage design that was not made to support rock concerts. In
a show, the performances feed from the audience feeds from the performers. The thesis explores the
possibility of breaking the stage design cannon by using progressive rock band The Mars Volta as its
test subject.

Taking ideas of the band, the stage becomes energetic, atmospheric and unconventional. As The Mars Volta tries to change traditional rock music with their sound, the venue changes traditional rock stages with its design.

By creating a set of trucks, the band is able to drive and set up thir stage as an installation anywhere.
It disrupts its surroundings and exposes the band to passerbys. There are infinite configurations, an
ever evolving and ever changing stage for ever evolving and ever changing music.

Essentially, the thesis proposed to create a rock concert stage that heightens the experience of the
event itself, while taking into account the aspects of performances, mobility, construction and site.
