Project Objective: To design and build a functional prototype of a one-handed operable wheelchair that is robust while inexpensive.
User Needs: One-handed operable, outdoor operable, inexpensive manufacturing, upkeep and maintained easily, withstand hostile environment, indoor operable, lightweight and portable, and ergonomically confortable to use.
Performance Metrics: Capable of withstanding high force input from user, sustainable power output for daily use 24/7, weight capacity should not exceed 250 lbs, maximum operating slope at 13 percent, and the braking power should be able to stop within 10 feet while traveling at 10 mph.
Final Results were Two Prototypes:
Prototype 1 - Front Caster Active Steering, Linkage Propulsion System, Rim Brakes, and Limb Support.
Prototype 2 - Ratchet Arm Propulsion, Rim Brakes, Fixed Steering, and Limb Suport
Status: School Project
Location: Pullman, WA, US
