URBANUS is recognized as one of the most influential architecture practices in China. More than a design practice, URBANUS is also a think tank that aims at formulating architectural strategy from the urban environment in general and the ever changing urban conditions. URBANUS always focuses on urban realities in China and seeks architectural solutions based on its research of the emerging urban problems.  URBANUS was founded in Shenzhen in 1999, under the leadership of partners Xiaodu Liu, Yan Meng and Hui Wang, and has offices in Beijing and Hong Kong.

URBANUS is offering new opportunities for international talent. Designers hired for the Hong Kong office will first work in the Shenzhen office for a short introductory period before shifting to HK, in order to help them get familiar with China and the URBANUS design approach. 

URBANUS Hong Kong, also known as URL (URBANUS Labs), is a specialized team within URBANUS, creating innovative architectural and urban design solutions and pushing forward extra-architectural exploration at all scales.



The primary role of the Project Architect is to lead individual design teams in project development and execution. The Project Architect will assist the Director and the Associate/PM in the design development and daily management of large-scale urban design and architecture projects.

The Project Architect will also contribute in the following areas:

  • Developing formative Concept Designs for large-scale urban design and architecture projects.
  • Developing appropriate Urban Research or Design Research plans commensurate with assigned design works.
  • Creating and maintaining project schedules.
  • Preparing individual project presentations (internal and external).)
  • Regular reporting of Design progress to Director and Partners.
  • Supervising junior and intermediate designers assigned to projects, including specific design task assignment and management.




A candidate for the Project Architect position should meet the following qualifications:

  • Professional degree in Architecture
  • Advanced degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Engineering, Real Estate Development or related field.
  • 6 to 10 years’ experience in the profession of Architecture, Engineering, or related fields
  • Professional-level proficiency in core design software, including Adobe CS, AutoCAD, and Rhino
  • Strong design portfolio with the demonstrated ability to work at multiple scales
  • Experience as a design leader and the ability to lead projects through all phases of design
  • Strong interest and enthusiasm in research-oriented design and the URBANUS practice

The following qualifications will be given extra consideration, or may be required depending on anticipated projects:

  • China working experience
  • Experience on China-based projects
  • Fluent Mandarin is preferred.
  • Construction Management experience
  • Digital Fabrication proficiency/experience
  • Specialized software proficiency
  • Hong Kong citizenship or permanent residency
