VMDO Architects is an award-winning architecture firm made up of educational design specialists. Since our founding in 1976, we have focused our practice on customized planning and design for institutional clients. Committed to designing learning environments that positively shape the way people live, work, and play, VMDO recognizes the impact that thoughtful and imaginative design can have on students, teachers, parents, and the supporting community.
We are currently seeking an Interior Design Studio Leader to join our ~60-person office in Charlottesville, Virginia.
If you …
then you could be the right fit for this role.
VMDO enjoys the success of a talented and committed staff who collectively possess an average of 14 years with the firm. This longevity speaks to the positive environment in which we work, the fulfilling relationships we have developed, and the successful projects we have accomplished together.
We hold fast to the belief that the most effective and elegant architectural solutions come through a vital sense of insight, creativity, and invention, pursued with patience, and grounded in research and expertise. We continually seek new paths in the educational design work we do. We recognize that each school, institution, and community we work with is unique and form responsive approaches based on this audience. We promote a strong ethic of sustainability and stewardship, advocating innovative strategies that strive to change the lives of students and their support communities for the better.
The Interior Design Studio Leader will work across practice areas to lead interior design, material, and furnishing selections from initial concepts to documentation and installation. The Studio Leader will also provide design support to architectural teams in the coordination of furnishings with electrical and low voltage systems. A collaborative, transparent working style is a must, as this position will frequently interface with – as well as manage and mentor – various staff members to accomplish the design intent of various projects. The successful candidate will also demonstrate an eagerness to develop fresh approaches to design process and strategy, and provide firm-wide thought leadership for the interiors studio. Leadership and management skills should go hand-in-hand with the ability to work efficiently and methodically in order to drive project success.
