Guild, a national design + build collective that specializes in dynamic, eclectic, face-melting experiential design, brand environments, packaging, art, interiors and more is searching for a Creative Director for our Brooklyn studio.
Guild is a collection of artists, designers, architects, craftspeople, carpenters, welders and painters who put their heads and hands together to create unique marketing events and launches, retail stores, mobile tours, and any experience that bridges brand and consumer.
As Creative Director, you will:
Work with, manage, and inspire an existing team of incredibly talented 2D and 3D designers.
Add to or supplement this team with additional designers as needed.
Collaborate with the project management team to pitch and develop new projects with both new and existing clients.
Consistently push creative boundaries at Guild, while accepting and respecting the realities of physics.
Direct creative in an incredibly quick, high-pressure environment. We don’t often have months to work on projects; sometimes we have just days. Or hours.
Maintain the creative excellence of everything we produce.
Establish concepts/direction for new project designs with the creative team, the project management team, and clients.
Collaborate with the Production team to turn ideas into tangible product; watch the ideas you’ve shepherded become physical realities.
Take Guild in new business directions.
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a design or build relevant field.
A background in, or deep understanding of, both 2D and 3D design.
3–5 years experience successfully managing a creative team.
5–10 years design experience
A respect for deadlines, short and long, and an ability to guide and balance the workload of your team to make sure all deadlines are met.
The ability to woo and delight and make clients fall in love with your ideas.
Proven ability to create and adhere to realistic budgets — you can dream big dreams, but know what they will cost.
An ability to hand-sketch during client and internal meetings — to rapidly visualize ideas.
A good understanding of drawing programs such as Rhino, AutoCad and SketchUp.
Must be legally able to work in the US.
Ideal Candidate Will:
Have a broad knowledge of building materials — enough to know what is and isn’t possible to create.
Have used a tablesaw, a CNC machine, or otherwise gotten your hands dirty building something you’ve designed.
Be able to lead creative without ego, striking a perfect balance between client needs and requests and brazen ideas.
Communicate effectively and often, within your department, across departments, and across Guild studios.
Commit to an idea with passion and enthusiasm, and know when to change gears and let The Idea go.
Be a fast learner and constantly curious about the way things work and new design and new technology and pop culture and random bits of information.
Never be afraid of a late night, an early morning, an impossible idea or a challenge to overcome.
Live to work, but also work to live; outside interests and activities are important!
Make us laugh. Make us think. Blow our minds with your previous work and with the way your mind works.
Respect your co-workers. We will check references — of those to whom you reported and of those who reported to you.
