Our architectural unit, Bowery Design and Development, currently has an opening for an Architectural Drafter. We're looking for a self motivated, organized, team player with good communication skills and a positive attitude who will work under the direction of the Architects and working directly with a Project Manager, assist in the creation of 2D and 3D models and documentation drawings, details, sketches, and figures for field reports, investigations, and construction projects using current versions of available software.
Architectural Drafter Job Description
Under minimal supervision performs routine aspects of architectural assignments, subsequently providing architectural plans for high-end residential homes, based on preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specification sheets and other data.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Create plans, elevations, sections, details, assembly, and layout drawings from architect's sketches, CAD drawings from other disciplines, existing documents, and/or photographs and field measurements. Create or manipulate design documents or models from other project team members (e.g. contractor, architect-of-record).
Draw rough and detailed scale plans for foundations, buildings and structures, based on preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specification sheets and other data.
Operate computer-aided drafting (CAD) equipment or conventional drafting station to produce designs, working drawings, charts, forms and records.
Analyze building codes, by-laws, space and site requirements, and other technical documents and reports to determine their effect on architectural designs. Produce accurate building envelope (architectural) and structural design drawings using traditional 2D drafting software.
Produce 3D geometric and parametric models for the design of new buildings and/or the renovation of existing buildings.
Work under the direction of Architect. Work directly with engineers, architects, project managers, and other staff.
Provide QA/QC for own work, including: back-checking own work before returning it to Project Manager, adherence to CAD and graphic standards.
Assist in the maintenance of a typical-detail and geometric / parametric component databases, electronic filing of drawings/models, assist in checking shop drawings (or contractor's 3D models) etc.
Obtain and assemble data to complete architectural designs, visiting job sites to compile measurements as necessary.
Determine procedures and instructions to be followed, according to design specifications and quantity of required materials.
Check dimensions of materials to be used and assign numbers to lists of materials.
DESIRED CANDIDATE PROFILE
Two year associate's degree (minimum) in Architecture with history of increasing responsibilities, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Familiarity with applicable LA Codes and regulations, including Hillside ordinance and interpretive capabilities.
Direct and responsible experience in a broad range of high-end residential building and construction types.
Knowledge of constructability and cost containment, with emphasis on design-build delivery and fast track permitting.
Advanced knowledge of plotting to PDF, DWF, and paper.
Ability to communicate effectively with clients
Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the industry/profession
Ability to learn and grasp new concepts quickly with a willingness to learn and accept new challenges
High level of organization and attention to detail
Multi-tasking ability and good judgment
Ability to prioritize and manage tasks against deadlines and other metrics
Self-starter, motivated, takes initiative, has strong work ethic
Expertise in AutoCAD (required) , Revit, 3D AutoCAD, SketchUp
