FACULTY POSITION IN URBAN DESIGN
The School of Architecture and Planning at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York, invites applicants for a faculty position in Urban Design at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, beginning August 2014. The selected candidate will hold a tenure-track or tenured faculty position in the Department of Architecture. The School encourages applications from designers focusing on issues that engage contemporary urbanism and the city through design research, scholarship and practice.
Successful candidates will demonstrate excellence in the fields of architectural
design, urban design and/or the design of urban systems and infrastructures; have experience in teaching design studios at both undergraduate and graduate levels; and have an aptitude for translating design positions into theoretical and historical scholarship. A track record of cross-disciplinary collaboration with adjacent fields such as urban planning, landscape architecture, and computational media and information systems is desirable. Candidates must hold a professional degree in architecture with an advanced post-graduate degree in urban design, urban planning, or a related field.
The successful candidate will be expected to be involved in one or more of the Depart-
ment of Architecture’s graduate research groups (Ecological Practices, Inclusive Design, Material Culture, and Situated Technologies) and will teach both graduate and undergraduate design studios, as well as seminars and/or lecture courses at both levels. He/she will also further strengthen the links between our programs in Architecture and in Urban and Regional Planning.
